Karate Program

Basic karate membership allows you to participate in any karate class provided you meet the necessary age/maturity and/or rank requirements for that level of training. You may attend many days a week as you like. Karate students are permitted to take one Judo/JuJitsu class per week. Karate students will be required to wear karate-gi or optional summer uniform consisting of white karate-gi pants with a black Hickey Karate Center Black Belt Club T-shirt. For free-fighting class, certain hand mitts, headgear, and a mouthpiece are required. Chest protectors are optional and should be considered by women and children ages 12-20. We do not permit contact while free fighting regardless of the gear worn. Shin pads with instep protection are also suggested.

Instruction and ranking up to and including high dan (black belt) grading is offered. Youth ranks are valued at the same high degree as our adults but tempered for the age of the child. Youth ranking carries over into adult ranking as the student grows. Ranks earned as a youth are not repeated at adulthood as is the practice in some other martial arts schools.

Karate Creeds

  1. I will avoid all things that could possibly reduce my mental growth or physical health.
  2. I will develop self-discipline and I will never forsake a task once undertaken, until it is completed to the best of my ability.
  3. I will always strive to bring out the best in myself and in others.
  4. I will always show respect to my parents, to those senior to me, and to those less fortunate than myself.
  5. I will always honor my word and my commitments.
  6. I will only use karate constructively and defensively, to aid fellow man, and to better the world around me.
